How do air springs work?

For vehicles with coil-sprung suspension, air springs are installed directly into the coil. These are then expanded by inflation using an air compressor. When a heavy load is applied, the air springs support the coils by not allowing them to completely compress, which creates a smoother ride preventing any lost ride height. Air springs also allow for adjusting a softer ride or harder depending on handling and road conditions. When hauling heavy loads, air springs will help distribute weight evenly for an enhanced driving performance.
